Chiefs Move ‘Opens the Door’ for Kenneth Walker III Signing

The Kansas City Chiefs need a solid running back for the 2026-27 season, and the reigning Super Bowl MVP just happens to be one in Kenneth Walker III.

Now, an insider says that a move from the Kansas City Chiefs has opened the door for a Walker signing.

Walker closed out his season with the Seattle Seahawks with 221 carries for 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns, according to NFL research, and averaged 4.6 yards per attempt. He also started in all 17 games for the team and stayed healthy throughout the season, which says a lot.

Then, to top it all off, Walker was named the Super Bowl LX MVP.

“If I would have told myself as a kid, I wouldn’t have guessed that I would be the one to win the MVP,” Walker told reporters after winning the award, according to NBC News. “So, it’s a surreal moment.”

“I’m really happy for Ken. He played a tremendous game,” Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said after the Super Bowl victory. “Everyone really dedicated themselves to the run game today, which is something we had to get going to really control the game, and I think this is one of the best versions of Ken that we’ve [seen] up to this point.”

Kenneth Walker III Landing Spots: Kansas City Chiefs

On Thursday, March 4, Sports Illustrated and The MMQB’s Albert Breer and Rich Eisen discussed what the Trent McDuffie trade meant for the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs.

They made a point on the show that the deal “might open up the door for them to go after somebody like Kenneth Walker next week.”

Breer also said in SI’s mailbag feature, “Running back is a big one to keep an eye on. I expect that they’ll at least make a run at Kenneth Walker III in free agency, and add a veteran position in any case, given that they can’t necessarily count on Jeremiyah Love being there at No. 9. There’s not a ton of depth at the position in the draft (outside of Love’s teammate Jadarian Price) beyond him.”

So, when free agency heats up on March 11, don’t be too surprised if you see Walker packing his bags for Kansas City.
