It’s been 16 years since Jared Padalecki last starred in a movie, but that’s all about to change with his latest role in Netflix’s Guarding Stars.
Padalecki took to Instagram to reveal that filming has wrapped on Guarding Stars.
Alongside a selfie taken in a snowy environment, he thanked the city of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, where he shot the movie, for “letting this annoying Texan come and stay in your town for a hot second.” He called the people of Calgary “incredible hosts” and hopes he and rest of the cast and crew made them proud.
The actor ended his message with a lighthearted postscript that requested “a little less snow next time.” Padalecki admitted that, while the location was “beautiful,” he “sure was freezing my b***s off.”
Hey Calgary.
Thank you for letting this annoying Texan come and stay in your town for a hot second.
Yall are incredible hosts, and I had an incredible time….
Hope that we all did you proud.
Hope that we can all make it back soon.

(PS. If I may be so bold, maybe a little less snow next time?…
It sure was beautiful, but I sure was freezing my b***s off…)
Based on Katherine Center’s 2022 NYT bestselling novel The Bodyguard, Guarding Stars is a romcom that centers on a bodyguard, played by Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, who is tasked with protecting a famous celebrity (Padalecki). Starring alongside the two leads in the film are Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes, Noah LaLonde, Toby Sandeman, Rachael Ancheril, Phil Brooks and Ava Max.
Guarding Stars is the latest Center novel to be adapted for the screen, after The Lost Husband in 2020 and Happiness For Beginners in 2021.
The author has also written The Bright Side of Disaster, Everyone is Beautiful, Get Lucky, How to Walk Away, Things You Save in a Fire, What You Wish For, Hello Stranger and The Love Haters.
Ginny & Georgia‘s Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum directed Guarding Stars from a script by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith. The team of producers includes Padalecki, his wife Genevieve Padalecki, Robin Fisichella, Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo.
Padalecki has starred in multiple movies over the years, including New York Minute, Flight of the Phoenix, House of Wax and the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot. The slasher film was his most recent role on the big screen, though he did provide the English dub for a character in the 2015 animated French-language film Phantom Boy.
Even though he hasn’t been in a film in the past 16 years, Padalecki’s successful career has mostly played out on the small screen, where he played Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls and Sam Winchester on the 15-season fantasy series Supernatural with Jensen Ackles.
The latter role earned him a People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Bromance (with Misha Collins) and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor.
After the CW show ended in 2020, the actor stayed on the same network to star in the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, Walker, which aired for four seasons.
Padalecki can next be seen in the final season of the hit Prime Video superhero show The Boys, which premieres on April 8.
A release date for Guarding Stars hasn’t been announced yet.
