The Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has pledged to rebuild the party in Ekiti State and restore it to winning ways ahead of the 2027 general election.

The newly inaugurated State Chairman of the group, Mr Lanre Omolase, said they were ready to reposition the party and called for commitment from members, assuring that the PDP would regain its strength in the state.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Saturday during the inauguration of the State Working Committee members, Omolase, an ally of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, said, “I will lead the party with the fear of God and ensure that the party regains its lost grounds in the state. We have all it takes to achieve that.”

A member of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, Bisi Kolawole, emphasised that plans were underway to rebuild the party’s fractured structure and reposition it for future political success.

Kolawole, a former PDP governorship candidate in Ekiti, told delegates at the congress, “No doubt, our party has experienced internal challenges in recent times, but the leadership at the national level is working diligently to restore unity, strengthen internal democracy, and rebuild the confidence of members across the country. Consultations are ongoing among party leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the PDP emerges stronger and more united.”

He urged the newly elected state executives to remain loyal, respect party elders, and work collectively to move the party forward, stressing that discipline, unity, and commitment to party ideals are essential for the PDP to regain its strength as a major political force in the country.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the PDP State Congress Committee, Philip Adebiyi, praised the conduct of the congress and reiterated that leadership is working assiduously to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said, “The next step is to bring all party members together for reconciliation,” adding that efforts are ongoing in that direction.

Other members of the State Working Committee include Babatunde Akande, Deputy Chairman; Chief Tunde Ogunleye, Secretary; Femi Philips, Publicity Secretary; Lawrence Odunayo, Organising Secretary; Olugbenga Agbede, Legal Adviser; Mrs Ayodele Bosede, Women Leader; Banji Femi, Youth Leader; Gani Bakare, Financial Secretary; Anike Folasade, Treasurer; Ajayi Joseph, Auditor; and Sunday Olowolafe, Adeniyi Adefemi, and Segun Olatunji as Senatorial Chairmen South, Central, and North, respectively.

PDP National leaders continue efforts to reconcile the two factions in the state—the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

In Ekiti, while Fayose leads the Wike-backed faction, the party’s governorship candidate for the June 20 election comes from the Turaki faction.
