This “weird” Ryobi tool solved the most annoying problem in my garage

All the different power tool brands produce a ton of excellent tools, especially Ryobi, which makes a little bit of everything. Every once in a while, you’ll stumble onto some weird, obscure item that you never knew you needed. That’s exactly what happened to me late last year at Home Depot, and that tool ended up solving one of my biggest workshop woes.

I’m not talking about your usual drill, angled ratchet, or even a cool Installation Driver, but something that sticks out in the store and makes you think, “what a wild product.”

Ryobi’s Hybrid TriPower Tripod Light is incredible

Bought it on sale, and now I wish I had bought it sooner

I’ve already detailed some of the many obscure Ryobi tools, but the Hybrid TriPower Tripod Tower Light is by far one of my absolute favorite purchases. The name is a mouthful, but that’s because this thing has so many functions that apparently Team Green couldn’t come up with a concise name for it.

And honestly, this towering, hybrid, adjustable work light has so many functions that I use it in more places than just my garage. It’s great for any outdoor event, late-night BBQs, camping, trips to the park, and similar activities.

Wait—what is this thing? The Hybrid TriPower Tower Light is basically a giant Ryobi tripod with folding legs and can extend to over 7 feet tall. On top, you’ll see a powerful 3800 lumen light with adjustable panels. At the base, you can plug in an 18V ONE+ battery (or a 40V battery) to power your lighting, and it’ll also accept a regular 120V extension cord.

After using the TriPower light for nearly a year, I’ve come to absolutely love it. It’s a beast of a work light, putting out 3,800 lumens that’ll easily give me enough light in my dark garage. I’ve used it countless times while changing the oil, replacing brake pads, and doing other tasks late into the night.

The lighting in my garage is my biggest complaint, and while I’ll hardwire a better lighting solution eventually, this tower light has been a game-changer.

The light head is detachable and features four adjustable panels, so you can point the beam exactly where you need it rather than just flooding the whole garage. It also pivots 135 degrees, giving you a lot of flexibility in where the light shines and how wide or shallow the flood is. It’s pretty epic.

Ryobi’s Hybrid TriPower Tower light will be a conversation starter in the neighborhood, too. However, it’s the flexibility and versatility that made me want to share it with you guys.

Versatility you never knew you needed

Battery or cable-powered, and the tower works with more than just lights

For $200, it’s certainly not the cheapest Ryobi tool or lighting solution I’ve ever seen. But that’s just it, this does way more than purely function as a utility light.

What I love most is that you can use an 18V ONE+ battery, a 40V battery from your lawnmower, or plug it into the wall. That’s true versatility that most tools can’t deliver. And honestly, given the high light output, you’ll probably want to use an extension cord. That said, a typical Ryobi 40V 4Ah battery delivers over 25 hours of battery life. That’s enough to light up a campsite at night for a weekend. When it’s time to leave, the legs collapse with built-in handles, making it much easier to lug back to the truck.

Ryobi 18V vs 40V: When do you actually need the extra power?

Big jobs might require extra juice.

Additionally, this weird tripod light situation isn’t just a light. It’s also a tripod for all your Ryobi tools. On top of the tripod is a Ryobi tool mount, so you can swap the light out for a fan, Bluetooth speaker, or anything else you’d like. That’s pretty neat, and I’ve actually used it with my Ryobi BT speaker a few times.

Then, the best part of this entire tool is, naturally, the light. I really love the four adjustable panels and bright LED lights. It’s not permanently attached to the tripod, so it functions as a portable light whenever you don’t need the rest of the base. Take it off, snap on a battery, and bring the light inside during a power outage.

And if you’re actually in an emergency power outage, the light has four modes, including a mode that only illuminates one panel to preserve battery life. Those folks at Ryobi and Home Depot really thought of everything on this wild accessory.

Don’t just take my word for it. You’ll find videos and reviews on YouTube and all over the Ryobi website from users who absolutely love this thing.

It’ll be perfect for summer projects

Whether you’re gearing up for spring and summer projects or planning camping trips, this is a pretty neat little accessory worth buying. It offers countless ways to use it, making it an excellent value. If you’re lucky, you’ll get this Tripod light and a 3 battery combo for $219 like I did last summer.
