Although best known for its impressive catalog of shows, Apple TV has also been slowly establishing itself as a strong force in the world of film. At this year’s Academy Awards, the streamer had two films nominated for Oscars, compared to the six of Netflix, who are more advanced in their foray into Academy darlings. The Lost Bus, starring Hollywood icon Matthew McConaughey and Barbie‘s America Ferrera, was one of their nominees, with director Paul Greengrass‘ pulse-racing project earning a Best Visual Effects nomination.
However, the most notable of Apple’s 2026 Oscar nominees was the sports drama F1, director Joseph Kosinski‘s fast-paced blockbuster that became Apple Original Film’s highest-grossing theatrical release of all time. During a long summer run against tough competition, the film earned an impressive $633 million worldwide and returned positively on a budget reportedly ranging between $200 million and $300 million. At the Oscars, F1 was nominated for four awards, including a nod in the coveted Best Picture category, even going on to win the Golden Statue for Best Sound.
Since its theatrical run and during its Academy Awards campaign, F1 has continued to prove popular on the Apple TV streaming charts. At the time of writing, the Brad Pitt-led sports flick has officially passed 100 consecutive days in the Apple TV movie charts in the U.S., placing first ahead of the Elizabeth Olsen-led fantasy rom-com Eternity, and is also the most-watched film on the streamer globally by quite some distance.

What Did Collider Say About ‘F1’?
With a near-perfect 97% audience score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear viewers adored F1. But what did critics think? In Ross Bonaime‘s review of the movie for Collider, he praised the film’s ability to make you “high-five the stranger next to you in a packed theater,” adding, “F1 is an absolute blast and one of the most exciting films to come out this summer, a film that will put you on the edge of your seat and make you glad that filmmakers like Kosinski are still making films like this today.”
