Amid the Toronto Blue Jays’ fast start to the 2026 season, the defending AL champions made a trade with the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
The Blue Jays swapping infielder Leo Jimenez for infielder Dub Gleed has people reacting. Toronto also acquired a $250,000 international signing bonus pool space, which is for international amateur free agents.
“You might recall Dub Gleed from breaking his bat on a no-contact check swing fame,” the Minor League Baseball social media team posted via X.
Gleed’s bat broke apart, and the barrel went careening into the infield. He “played at four levels last season” in the minors, MLB Pipeline noted, which included time in AAA ball.

“All the Toronto Blue Jays get is Dubs,” one user wrote via X.
To the user’s point, the Blue Jays saw promise in Jimenez. The Blue Jays signed him in 2017.
“Leo Jimenez is a 24-year-old 2B and SS. Limited to just 44 total games last year. 63 MLB games in 2024; .229/.329/.358,” one user noted via X. “Was once graded Toronto’s #5 prospect. For-average bat with plus defensive tools up the middle. A 40-man spot will need to be cleared for him.”
It comes as a surprise to one user. The Blue Jays have a contending roster, and Jimenez was a small part of that last year when the team made the World Series — albeit a small part of it.

“There’s a weird alternate universe where the 2026 Blue Jays have Leo Jiménez and Otto López as their middle infielders,” the user wrote via X. “That universe doesn’t include an American League pennant, as much as I like both players.”
Lopez played for the Blue Jays from 2021 to 2022, but he landed back in the minor leagues in 2023. Toronto traded Lopez to the San Francisco Giants in 2024, and the Marlins claimed Lopez that year after the Giants waived him.
Now, Lopez and Jimenez could team up in Miami instead of Toronto, as the user alluded to.
