A black cat has gone viral on TikTok after making his feelings unmistakably clear moments after arriving at a pet hotel.
The short clip shared by @dustyandscout shows the cat sitting inside a wooden-style booth, calmly eating his food. When a person reaches in to pet him, the cat instantly recoils, leaning back and pulling his head away in what viewers quickly interpreted as a firm—but polite—refusal. The video garnered almost 400,000 views on TikTok.
“Dropped my cat off at a cat hotel turns out he’s very clear about his boundaries,” the owner wrote in the video’s text overlay.
In the caption, they added: “He’s casually just handing out threats.”
The cat’s reaction was brief but decisive, and it struck a chord with TikTok users, who flooded the comments with jokes and praise for his assertiveness. Many described the moment as a perfect example of setting boundaries—without aggression.
“The most polite no thank you,” one user commented.
“That was a very polite ‘no thank you, I only like being touched by people I know,’” another shared.
Others echoed the sentiment, reading the cat’s reaction as calm but unmistakable.
“He said ‘no thank you,’” wrote Amanda.
“No thank you ma’am,” another user joked.
“That’s far enough please,” said another user.
Several viewers pointed out that the cat appeared to give clear signals even before the hand reached him.
“He was sooooo polite, considering it was obvious he was saying no before they reached in for a pet lol,” one commenter said.
Another added: “No, I don’t think so. Not today. Thank you though.”

The clip resonated with cat owners in particular, many of whom said the moment felt instantly familiar. Unlike dogs, cats are often known for having strict personal boundaries—especially in unfamiliar environments—and the pet hotel setting seemed to amplify that instinct.
Rather than reacting aggressively, the cat’s response stood out for its restraint, which commenters joked made it even more relatable.
The video has since circulated widely, with viewers praising the cat for communicating discomfort clearly and calmly—and for reminding humans that consent applies to pets too.
As one commenter summed it up, the cat’s message couldn’t have been clearer: polite, firm and very much on his own terms.
