Jenna Ortega is once again dominating timelines—but this time, it’s not because of Wednesday.
The actress, 23, was recently spotted out with Danish musician Elias Rønnenfelt, best known as the frontman of Iceage. In a now-viral clip, Rønnenfelt, 34, is seen with his arm around Ortega, instantly fueling speculation about their relationship status.
But while the internet loves a potential new couple, this one comes with some baggage. Following the photos, past controversies tied to Rønnenfelt have resurfaced—prompting renewed scrutiny online.
One issue dates back to artwork Rønnenfelt created for Iceage when he was just 18. The imagery included symbols later linked to neo-Nazi and fascist groups, which sparked backlash years later. Addressing the controversy in an interview with Pitchfork, he said, “When a lot of these allegations came out, we were dumbfounded. Now I understand that we hold a responsibility on our shoulders to make it clear what we stand for.”
Rønnenfelt also claimed the imagery was pulled from the 1980s film Roller Blade, adding that he didn’t grasp the meaning behind the symbols at the time.
“What some people took from it was not our intent. I hope that it’s very clear, and I think it is for anybody who has followed us, that we are most definitely not right-wing and we don’t have any sympathies or leanings to that side.”
The musician has faced additional criticism over Iceage inviting a provocatively named band—White N—to perform at a festival they organized. “There’s no way of excusing this,” Rønnenfelt said.
“They weren’t a band that had ever played before. They were some people that we knew were active in Antifa activism. I don’t know what the f*ck their intent was with that [band name].”
He continued, “I f—king deeply regret that we failed to speak up there and prevent it, and that we failed to see how fcked up and harmful having a band… I’m embarrassed to have shared a stage with a band with that name.”
Rønnenfelt added that he initially believed the name was intended as a political statement—though he acknowledged how offensive it was regardless.
As for Ortega, she’s stayed characteristically quiet. The actress has not publicly confirmed any relationship with Rønnenfelt and has long been open about keeping her personal life under wraps.
In a 2023 interview, she explained her hesitation around dating: “Maybe I am too obsessed with my work, but the idea of relationships stresses me out,” she said. “And also being that vulnerable with someone and having to get to know someone that well and having someone see you for all that you are.”
“I’m not ready to be that vulnerable or trusting with someone.”
For now, Ortega remains focused on her ever-expanding career. After breaking out on Wednesday, she’s solidified herself as a Gen Z scream queen with roles in Scream and X, and is already looking ahead—stepping into producing and eyeing a future behind the camera.
