Taylor Sheridan lassos another major streaming win.
Sheridan has built a name for himself with a bona fide empire of TV shows, exploring different genres. Among Sheridan’s best series are projects like the crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown, the spy series Lioness, and several Western shows both in and out of the Yellowstone TV franchise. Now, the prolific creator’s original Western masterpiece has resurged on streaming in a big way.
At the time of writing, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone stands as the 2nd most-watched TV show on Paramount+ worldwide. Sheridan’s original Western masterpiece is now back to leave behind some of the creator’s recent genre releases. Marshals, which continues the story of Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton, is right behind at 3rd, while The Madison, a standalone Western from Sheridan, is at 6th.
Aside from his Western shows, Sheridan also has one more offering on the list, as Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King stands at 5th, showcasing the creator’s power across different genres. In the streamer’s United States chart, the story is different, as the only Sheridan shows that are currently on the list are The Madison, which is at 4th, and Marshals, at 7th.
Yellowstone is not available on Paramount+ in the United States, with the Western TV show instead finding a home on a different streamer, Peacock. Yellowstone was released on June 20, 2018. The hit series led by Kevin Costner as John Dutton III would run for five successful seasons, concluding on December 15, 2024. However, that was far from the end of the road for the Duttons.
Two Yellowstone spinoffs have been released so far. In 1883, fans of the franchise got to learn how the Duttons came to find and own the land where the iconic Yellowstone Ranch would prosper. In 1923, Sheridan explored what the Prohibition era was like for the Duttons with a star-studded ensemble that featured Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, Timothy Dalton, and more.
Sheridan’s plans for the Yellowstone franchise also include the future, which is where Marshals, Kayce’s solo series, comes in. The upcoming Dutton Ranch, which releases on May 15, will bring back Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler. Yellowstone‘s streaming resurgence is a good sign that franchise interest remains high for all that is yet to come.
That list of upcoming projects includes 1944, a planned Yellowstone prequel that could bring back Sklenar as an older version of 1923‘s Spencer Dutton, as well as 6666, which would focus on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas and its history. The Yellowstone franchise’s future looks bright.
