Steam Machine Pricing Leaves Gamers In Agreement

Announced back in November 2025, the Steam Machine will be the first console to combine the power of a gaming PC. Created by Valve, the company behind the popular PC platform, Steam, this cube-shaped console will be able to run PC games from your Steam library at up to 4K resolution and 60fps, making it the perfect purchase for those who want a gaming PC but are unable to afford it, or have the room to house it.

However, with potential customers worried about the price of the upcoming Steam Machine, many agree that it will definitely work out cheaper than buying the best gaming PC on the market.

With the Steam Machine being able to run PC games both whilst wired up to your television like a standard console, or linked to a monitor to use it even more like a PC, it also comes with the power of more than six Steam Decks. Even capable of running the most demanding AAA games, the Steam Machine will launch with two versions: one at 512GB and another at 2TB with both boasting additional microSD storage, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. All in all, this is the most powerful console yet, which makes that highly debated price point all the more concerning. Yes, it will cost more than your standard top-of-the-range gaming PC, but with this much power behind it, it may still come with an eye-watering price tag.

Back in February, Valve revealed that the Steam Machine would be delayed due to a shortage of components such as RAM, GPU and memory. As such, the previous Q1 2026 release has been altered, although we are now unsure of its exact launch date. As such, the price of the Steam Machine has also not been officially revealed. However, over on r/Steam, potential customers have been discussing how far they would be willing to go to get their hands on the upcoming console.

Just last month, one user put forward the question, “At what price would you NOT buy the Steam Machine?” They continued, “I’ve been a PlayStation user since PS2, but lately I only see more disadvantages to being a console user… Building or finding a gaming PC has always been a headache, and I’d like to try the Steam Machine when it comes out, but I’d like to know what your opinion would be the best price to buy it at compared to a similar PC, and what price I shouldn’t buy.”

With over 2,000 comments on the post, it is safe to say that many potential customers have their thoughts on the price they are willing to pay for the Steam Machine. “If it cracks four digits, I’m out,” the top comment reads, with over 5,000 upvotes. Looking through the comments, this seems to be the consensus. Put simply, if the Steam Machine asks for over $1,000, many customers will firmly refuse to pay it. However, with even a standard gaming PC set-up being more expensive than this, it really begs the question as to whether the Steam Machine will be worth it in the long-run.

For now, we can only guess as the Steam Machine has not yet received that all-important release date. Hopefully, when it finally launches and players are able to experience its capabilities, its potential price tag will make a lot more sense.
