Universal’s “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” held the No. 1 spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office for a second weekend, taking £5.5 million ($7.5 million) and lifting its total to £28.3 million ($38.2 million), according to Comscore.
“Project Hail Mary,” distributed by Sony, remained in second place, adding $3.3 million in its fourth frame for a cumulative $36.7 million.
Entertainment Film Distributors’ “The Drama” placed third in its second weekend with $2.4 million, pushing its total to $7.8 million. The company also held fourth place with “The Magic Faraway Tree,” which added $2.2 million to reach $15.7 million overall.
Disney’s “Hoppers” continued its run in fifth place with $542,000, bringing its cumulative to $18.2 million.
Event cinema made a notable impact mid-chart, with Trafalgar Releasing’s “BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Goyang: Live Viewing” debuting in sixth place on $454,000.
Universal’s “You, Me & Tuscany” opened in seventh place with $407,000, followed by Vertigo Releasing’s “Undertone” in eighth with $367,000. Studiocanal’s “California Schemin’” debuted ninth on $302,000.
Rounding out the top 10, Curzon’s “The Stranger” opened with $178,000.
Looking ahead, the mid-April slate is led by Warner Bros.’ “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,” alongside Lionsgate U.K.’s “Glenrothan,” opening wide across 300 locations. Sony adds “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” while Trinity Filmed Entertainment rolls out action title “Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert,” directed by Yuen Woo-ping and starring Jet Li and Wu Jing across 100-plus sites.
Event cinema and repertory remain prominent. MusicScreen presents “Cosi Fan Tutte – Mozart,” followed by National Theatre’s “All My Sons – NT Live 2026,” while CinemaLive adds “Paul Smith: Pablo Live.” Anime Ltd. brings “Akira” back to cinemas in Imax across 300 locations, and Trafalgar Releasing continues its K-pop slate with “BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Japan: Live Viewing.” Universal also marks the 25th anniversary of “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”
The specialty and international sector is particularly busy. Signature Entertainment releases Olivier Assayas’ “The Wizard of the Kremlin,” starring Jude Law and Alicia Vikander, while Studiocanal debuts “Colours of Time.” Mubi adds “Endless Cookie,” and Picturehouse Entertainment rolls out “Rebuilding.” Altitude Film Distribution opens “The Blue Trail,” while Tull Stories releases “Kinaesthesia.” Vue Lumière fields Ferzan Ozpetek’s “Diamanti,” New Wave presents Christian Petzold’s “Miroirs No. 3,” and Peccadillo Pictures releases “Departures.”
Additional titles include Central City Media’s “Sunshine Women’s Choir,” which is the highest grossing Taiwanese film of all time, Bakrania Media’s “Khushkhabri” and Miracle Comms’ “Time Hoppers: The Silk Road.”
