After nearly two weeks in the hospital, United States star skier Lindsey Vonn revealed she was finally released and able to move to a hotel, but it still waiting to move home.

Vonn revealed she nearly had to have her leg amputated, but more than a handful of surgeries were able to prevent that catastrophic end. In addition to her tibia being left in pieces following her crash at the Olympics, Vonn revealed she suffered from compartment syndrome where “too much blood” in one area of her leg “crushed” everything including her “muscles, nerves and tendons.”

“Now I will focus on rehab and progressing from a wheelchair to crutches in a few weeks. It will take around a year for all of the bones to heal and then I will decide if I want to take out all the metal or not, and then go back into surgery and finally fix my ACL,” she revealed on Instagram.

Just a day later, Vonn couldn’t help but get emotional amidst all she’s been through over the past few weeks. In addition to tearing her ACL before the Olympics and needing half a dozen surgeries following her horrific crash, the American skier also lost her beloved dog, Leo, who died when Vonn was in the hospital.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24 morning, she posted a photo with her dog, Chance, with the caption, “Why are you crying mom?” and the response, “It was just a hard day…”

Despite the hardships she’s faced, Vonn remains in good spirits following her exit from the hospital. “It will be a long road but I’ll get there. At least I’m out of the hospital. Love you all,” she said in a message to fans.
