Why Netflix’s New #1 Show Is Taking Over The World (New Episodes Out Now)

Netflix’s binge-worthy historical drama Bridgerton is back in the top streaming spot after the recent release of season 4, part 2. Based on the books by Julia Quinn, each focuses on the life and love of one of the eight Bridgerton children, and season 4 is about the hedonistic Benedict and his Cinderella-like romance with a mysterious woman he meets at a masked ball.

The season features Bridgerton‘s most modern romance yet, and the show is going from strength to strength, pleasing fans of the original books as well as new viewers. Season 4, part 2, resolves the story with a happy ending for most, while teasing the subjects of Bridgerton season 5, which has been confirmed by Netflix, along with season 6.

Bridgerton‘s season 4 set a Rotten Tomatoes record for the show, polarizing viewers and critics. While critics rated it 71% positive, audiences were not so impressed, giving it a 54% score. However, part 2 has turned things around, with critics and audiences giving it respective ratings of 82% and 67%. This continues Bridgerton‘s successful streak, making the show a perfect weekend binge-watch.

Bridgerton breaks the rules for historical dramas by blending typical tropes with the fantastical, but it wisely stops short of becoming a fantasy show. The costumes might not all be period-accurate, but they are beautiful, and the show abandons Regency-era racial tension in favor of a diverse and interesting cast, which is a breath of fresh air for an often-predictable genre.

Netflix’s Controversial Two-Part Release Strategy Is Working

Netflix’s season-splitting is not always popular, with shows like Stranger Things losing momentum. However, Deadline reported Netflix executive defending the two-part strategy, saying, “A lot of times it’s been creator-driven. Peter Morgan on The Crown, Shonda Rhimes on Bridgerton, there was a way that they wanted to structure or write it because they felt it was an actual, natural emotional break.”

That said, the strategy worked for Bridgerton, as fans only had to wait a few weeks for part 2 to come out. This allowed people to speculate and for the momentum to grow, but did not allow the discourse to become stagnant. Rather than feeling like a marketing ploy, the show gave viewers time to take a breath before the drama-packed ending.

When Will Bridgerton Season 5 Come Out?

While the release date for Bridgerton season 5 has not yet been confirmed, What’s On Netflix has reported that the series will begin filming in March in the UK. Based on the previous seasons, it is likely that the next installment of the Bridgerton saga will be back on Netflix in 2027. However, just as in the story, speculation is not always correct.

That said, many are already debating the subjects of the next two series. Bridgerton made a significant book change in season 3 by focusing on Penelope and Colin, but Francesca and Eloise look equally likely subjects for season 5. No matter whose romance takes center stage, Bridgerton must also explore its new great mystery, the identity of Lady Whistledown.
