Scuderia Ferrari has encountered travel delays ahead of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, with a portion of its Formula 1 crew arriving later than scheduled following flight disruptions linked to recent events in the Middle East.
While most F1 teams have reached Melbourne without major complications, Ferrari has been affected by cancellations involving routes through key Middle Eastern transit hubs. Those disruptions were triggered by military strikes in the region that led to temporary airspace closures and forced airlines to reroute or suspend services, as reported by CNN.

According to prominent F1 photographer Kym Illman, a “good number” of Ferrari personnel were still making their way to Australia during race week. However, the expectation remains that the full contingent will be in place before competitive sessions begin at Albert Park.
“The cancellation of flights via the Middle East hit Ferrari hardest, with crew still winging their way around the globe. They’ll get here, albeit a little later than normal,” Illman wrote in an Instagram post.
“F1 and the teams have done an amazing job solving some tricky logistics to ensure the opening round of the season goes ahead,” he added.
Logistical Setback, Not a Competitive Crisis
The delay comes as Ferrari begins a season that carries clear expectations. After a 2025 campaign that fell short of podium ambitions, the team enters 2026 aiming to reestablish itself at the front of the grid.
Lewis Hamilton starts his second year with Ferrari, determined to improve on a debut season that produced no podium finishes and to quiet recent fan concerns ahead of the Australian GP. Melbourne now serves as the first real test of whether winter progress will translate into results.

Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, begins the campaign after recently marrying long-time partner Alexandra Saint Mleux, now Alexandra Leclerc. The Monegasque driver has spoken about feeling refreshed heading into 2026, with an emphasis on delivering consistency from the opening round.
With both drivers focused on a strong start, Ferrari’s objective is straightforward: execute cleanly from the first session and build momentum early.
F1 Navigates Global Uncertainty
The broader motorsport community has acknowledged the gravity of developments in the Middle East, particularly as F1 prepares to return to the region next month, with the Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled for April 12, followed by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on April 19.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem issued a statement addressing the situation: “As President of the FIA, my thoughts are with all those affected by the recent events in the Middle East. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and stand with the families and communities impacted.”

He further stated: “We are in close contact with our Member Clubs, championship promoters, teams, and colleagues on the ground as we monitor developments carefully and responsibly.”
“Safety and wellbeing will guide our decisions as we assess the forthcoming events scheduled there for the FIA World Endurance Championship and the FIA Formula One World Championship.”
Meanwhile, for Ferrari, the focus now shifts fully to preparation at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. The delayed arrivals may have altered travel schedules, but the competitive task remains unchanged as the 2026 season gets underway.
