There appears to be more to it than it seems with Dillon Brooks’ arrest.
It was revealed that the Suns star, who is nursing a broken hand injury, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on Friday morning.
But Brooks was not charged upon his release and was suspected to be under the influence of marijuana, not alcohol, according to Arizona Sports.
Bodycam footage appeared to highlight this as well, as Brooks appeared to blow a 0.0 on a breathalyzer test, as Arizona police accused him of having a car that “smelled like a dispensary.”
During the arrest, Brooks was concerned about having to be handcuffed due to his broken hand.
Additionally, Brooks also made a sly comment about the arresting officer’s driving.
“I’m really in a car with you watching you drive, and you’re doing the exact same thing that I’m doing,” Brooks said in defense of himself.
Brooks got injured in the midst of a career season, averaging 20.9 points per game while helping elevate the Suns to a currently 35-27 record and seventh in the Western Conference, which far exceeds the preseason expectations of many.
The Suns’ preseason win total over/under was 30.5 wins, and Brooks — along with All-Star Devin Booker and first-year head coach Jordan Ott, a former Nets assistant — helped engineer an unexpected breakout.
Brooks has been out of action since suffering the injury on Feb. 21 and is expected to be sidelined for up to another month, according to his original timeline, which was four to six weeks.
