Bronny James‘ path at the NBA level has been rough from the jump. In his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he’s averaging just 2.1 points in 7 minutes per game, nearly identical to his poor numbers from his rookie campaign.
Safe to say, he hasn’t been able to crack the rotation in a crowded backcourt. But the development underway in El Segundo tells a different story.
Since being assigned to the South Bay after the Chicago Bulls game on Friday, Bronny has been a completely different player. Right now, he’s averaging 15.3 points on 54.6% shooting, 42.1% from three, and 90.9% from the free-throw line in 25.8 minutes per game in the G-League.

While his numbers were higher last year, averaging 21.9 points and 5.3 assists, his efficiency has improved. Their 11-0 record with Bronny in the lineup is a new franchise record. He helped secure that record in a recent 125-106 win over the Iowa Wolves, finishing with 13 points, two assists, and two blocks.
LeBron James, as a father, was monitoring his son’s growth and couldn’t help but share the highlight reel on social media recently, showcasing Bronny’s strong rim attack.

Now he’s back with the parent team. Ahead of Saturday’s game against the Denver Nuggets, the team recalled Bronny, Kobe Bufkin, and Adou Thiero from their G League affiliate in El Segundo to give the purple and gold extra depth for a high-profile matchup.
LeBron, however, is averaging 21.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.0 assists this season while managing a heavy injury load, including a recent hip contusion and foot arthritis.
Tip-off against the Nuggets is at 8:30 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, South Bay has eight games left this month, giving Bronny more time to sharpen his skills. Whatever he is showing at this point is quite promising. And if this continues, the conversation around his role will change quickly.
