Aaron Rodgers opted to extend his career and return for his 21st NFL season last year. After two difficult seasons with the Jets, Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers and led the franchise to another winning record under Mike Tomlin.
The four-time league MVP finished the regular season with 3,322 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, and his play helped the Steelers capture the AFC North division title, their first since 2020.
Despite some inconsistencies, Rodgers stabilized the offense and guided the Steelers into the playoffs, though they were eventually eliminated in the wild card round, by the Houston Texans.

Before the start of the 2025 season, Rodgers had hinted it might be his final year in the NFL. Since the season’s conclusion, however, speculation about a potential return has grown. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Steelers want Rodgers to return next season “if he decides to play,” leaving the door open for a 22nd season in Pittsburgh.
While no formal offer has been made yet, Pittsburgh is actively reshaping its roster under new head coach Mike McCarthy after another disappointing playoff exit. And on Monday, the Steelers moved to add veteran running back and special teamer Travis Homer, according to Rapoport.

Homer, a sixth-round pick out of Miami in 2019, has primarily played on special teams, but has also made minimal contributions on offense. Throughout his career, he has recorded 474 yards rushing on 90 attempts with one touchdown, plus 55 catches for 475 yards with two TDs in his career.
In 2025 with the Chicago Bears, he appeared in 10 games, logging just six offensive snaps.
While Homer is expected to remain a predominant special teamer, he could also serve as a running back option for Rodgers and the Steelers should they require one down the stretch.
