LSU's Lane Kiffin Announces QB Sam Leavitt Injury Update

The LSU Tigers entered the 2026 college football offseason with a new coach in tow and a heavily revamped roster.

LSU completed a full facelift of its quarterback room after adding a high-profile transfer expected to lead the program forward in former Arizona State signal caller Sam Leavitt this offseason.

On top of Leavitt, the Tigers also landed two other quarterbacks through the transfer portal in former USC passer Husan Longstreet and Elon’s Landen Clark.

Leavitt, who underwent season-ending surgery last October, shared an update on social media earlier this week, posting an image of his foot following a procedure.

“Small step back for a bigger one forward!! Let’s GEAUX!!” Leavitt wrote.

Although the post raised immediate concern among fans because of a misinterpretation of his message, the quarterback quickly clarified his situation, adding, “Got the pins out of my foot from initial surgery. Lol did not get injured again.”

As LSU continues its early-offseason practices, head coach Lane Kiffin addressed the quarterback’s potential availability at some point during the spring.

“Yeah, I don’t think he will,” Kiffin said. “He’s on crutches now, but, maybe.”

The update suggests Leavitt is unlikely to participate in spring workouts because of his condition, though the door remains open for a limited return depending on his recovery.

Leavitt transferred to LSU after two seasons at Arizona State, where he threw for 4,513 yards and 34 touchdowns against nine interceptions while leading the program to a Big 12 title and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024.

The Tigers are scheduled to kick off their 2026 season with a matchup against the Clemson Tigers on Sep. 5.
