Neon Promotes Marketing Execs Joey Monteiro and Alexandra Altschuler

On the heels of a record 18 Oscar nominations, including a best international feature win for “Sentimental Value,” Neon has announced a series of promotions and a strategic new hire across its marketing department.

The studio has elevated Joey Monteiro to president of worldwide marketing, where he will oversee both domestic and international marketing for the studio, while Alexandra Altschuler has been elevated to President of Media.

Monteiro joined Neon in 2024 as exec VP of international marketing from Sierra-Affinity/eOne, where he served as exec VP of marketing and publicity and was responsible for creative marketing across film markets and festivals, as well as international distribution. His work includes campaigns for Academy Award-winning and nominated films including “Drive,” “Whiplash,” “I, Tonya,” “Manchester by the Sea” and “Nightcrawler.”

Since joining Neon in 2023 as VP of media, Altschuler has been a key architect of Neon’s evolution, building the media team from the ground up, executing media strategy and buying entirely in-house. Altschuler joined Neon after a 5-year tenure at A24, where she helped launch multiple Academy Award-winning projects, in addition to buzzy titles such as the Australian horror film, “Talk to Me.”

Additional promotions in the marketing department include Don Wilcox (to exec VP of Marketing), Mike Winton (to exec VP of Marketing) and Danielle Lee (to director, creative services). The company also welcomes Cat Fisher as exec VP of Marketing; Fisher joins the company from FilmNation Entertainment, where she served as VP of marketing. Wilcox, Lee and Fisher will all report to Monteiro.

“What this team has built is incredibly special. It’s a deep bench of talent that has been delivering at a high level for nearly a decade, and it’s gratifying to see that work evolve and continue to be recognized,” said Tom Quinn, NEON founder and CEO, in a statement announcing the moves.

Recent highlights from Neon’s marketing team include their work on six Oscar-nominated films, including best picture nominees “Sentimental Value” and “The Secret Agent.” The team was also responsible for the viral “F Your Consideration” billboard for Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice,” which was snubbed by the Academy.

Neon launched its campaign for Boots Riley’s “I Love Boosters,” in theaters on May 22, at SXSW with a live performance by star Keke Palmer. Next up, the distributor will release Damian McCarthy’s “Hokum,” starring Adam Scott, on May 1, before heading to the Cannes Film Festival with five films screening in competition and one out of competition. Variety exclusively revealed that the six-time Palme d’Or-winning studio had acquired “Hope,” a sci-fi thriller from Korean auteur Na Hong-jin, ahead of its Cannes premiere. Neon’s main competition titles include Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord,” Arthur Harrari’s “The Unknown,” Kore-eda’s “Sheep in the Box” and Hamaguchi’s “All of a Sudden.” Nicolas Winding Refn’s, “Her Private Hell,” will screen out of competition.
