Titans’ Darrell Baker graded one of worst perimeter corners in 2025

The Tennessee Titans have some significant questions to answer in the coming days as they make their final moves before the start of the new league year and the free agency period.

One of the major areas of concern is the cornerback position, where only the disappointing, often-injured L’Jarius Sneed serves as the veteran presence in an inexperienced group, and he could be a salary-cap casualty after two dismal seasons in Nashville.

The Titans will also have to decide what to do with Darrell Baker Jr., who enters the offseason as a restricted free agent. While he was the Titans’ only consistent cornerback in 2025, as Nic Bodiford of Pro Football Focus (PFF) points out, Baker had some struggles and was one of the lowest graded perimeter cornerbacks in the NFL last season.

Baker was successfully identified as a cornerback to target in his first career start, back in Week 1, 2023. He remains a beatable opponent today. His 54.8 PFF defense grade ranked 62nd among 71 NFL cornerbacks with at least 600 defensive snaps.

Baker entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He earned a starting role with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023 and has somehow done the same with the Titans over the last two seasons.

Although Baker moderately dissuades quarterbacks from throwing into his primary coverage at high frequencies, he allowed 0.2 yards shy of an explosive pass play on each completed pass.

This will be an interesting decision for the Titans to make, given the complete lack of experienced depth at cornerback, especially if they decide to part ways with Sneed. Tennessee leads the NFL in salary cap space and may decide to upgrade in free agency and the draft, but bringing back Baker may be a smart move with a new defensive system being implemented.
