Dread it. Run from it. Hogwarts Castle returns all the same. The new Harry Potter series has finally taken a major step out of the shadows. After months of cast announcements, early teases, and growing curiosity around HBO’s small-screen reboot of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world, the show has now unveiled its first trailer. It is the clearest look yet at how this new version plans to bring Hogwarts back to the screen, and it arrives as one of HBO’s biggest long-term bets heading into 2027.
The new Harry Potter series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, alongside John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The Weasley family includes Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, with Tristan Harland, Gabriel Harland, Ruari Spooner, and Gracie Cochrane appearing as Fred, George, Percy, and Ginny Weasley.
The trailer leans heavily into that nostalgic feel, with enchanting music tickling those emotional goosebumps on the backs of our necks, and it’s wonderful just to seem glimpses of iconic locations like Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, The Leaky Cauldron and Platform 9 3/4. It’s the latest reveal as part of Wizarding Week, after influencers were given the run of the set with their travels being released on Monday. Yesterday, HBO released the first look at McLaughlin in costume as Harry, taking to the Quidditch pitch.

Other Hogwarts students include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley. Additional cast members include Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and Leigh Gill as Griphook.
As for the rest of the Hogwarts assembly, Orson Matthews will play Oliver Wood, with Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Alicia Spinnet. Ethan Smith has also joined the cast as Lee Jordan. Over in Hufflepuff, India Moon will play Hannah Abbott, James Trevelyan Buckle is Justin Finch-Fletchley, Cian Eagle-Service has been cast as Ernie MacMillan, and Jazmyn Lewin will play Susan Bones.
Ravenclaw is adding Anjula Murali as Padma Patil, Aaron Zhao as Terry Boot, Scarlett Archer as Penelope Clearwater, and Eve Walls as Lisa Turpin. Slytherin is also getting a major expansion, with Oliver Croft cast as Marcus Flint, D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as Graham Montague, Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey, Cornelius Brandreth as Terence Higgs, Eddison Burch as Miles Bletchley, James Dowell as Lucian Bole, Henry Medhurst as Peregrine Derrick, and Laila Barwick as Pansy Parkinson.
Harry Potter premieres in 2027.
