Uncharted’s Rumored New Game Can Soar On The Last Of Us’ Broken Wings

Rumors of an Uncharted franchise revival have been floated for a while now, with one of the more ear-perking and hair-raising pieces of possible evidence for it arriving recently. After Naughty Dog’s Shaun Escayg shared a photo of a cannon in Trinidad and Tobago’s Fort George for “research,” it may not take a historian or archaeologist to discern that the context behind this photo could be related to Uncharted (unless it is a red herring, intentional misdirect, or somehow unrelated, anyway).

A new Uncharted game would be phenomenal as it could rejuvenate a beloved, long-dormant Naughty Dog franchise while The Last of Us is seemingly on a bit of a hiatus, assuming that it ever gets the threequel that has been teased. But, aside from what could well be a touching and epic story, Uncharted 5 would be warmly welcomed if it arrived with a game mode attached to it that is devastatingly absent in The Last of Us Part 2.

The Last of Us Part 2’s controversial story is perhaps its lasting legacy, unfortunately. Still, anyone who adored The Last of Us’ multiplayer component, dubbed Factions, was likely twice as disappointed to see that The Last of Us Part 2 would not be reprising the online PvP mode.

Of course, there was also the tragedy of The Last of Us’ standalone online game being canceled. This might have been Factions enthusiasts’ dream come true, but it seems as if fans of The Last of Us are living in a waking nightmare lately.

If it is truly on the horizon and ready to be teased in an official capacity, Uncharted 5 reprising the franchise’s multiplayer could be a second life of sorts for Factions. It obviously would not have the same atmosphere or tone as The Last of Us’ multiplayer, unless Uncharted 5 turns a drastic and post-apocalyptic leaf, but a new multiplayer outlet from Naughty Dog could be what Factions fans have been robbed of.

An Uncharted Revival Has A Lot Of Weight On Its Shoulders

It has been long enough since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy that Uncharted 5 would probably be embraced with open arms. That said, it would be interesting to see which iconic Uncharted character it chooses as its lead (most likely Cassie, due to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s epilogue), as well as whether multiplayer might actually return.

Because The Last of Us Part 2 does not feature multiplayer, there is no guarantee that Uncharted 5 would, either. Regardless, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has just as much of a chance to feature its own multiplayer mode, and a possible Uncharted revival would be fantastic with or without multiplayer.
